In casting news today, Russell Brand has confirmed that he will play the role of Lonny in upcoming 80’s homage musical, Rock of Ages. The film adaptation of the Broadway musical will be directed by Adam Shankman and already boasts an impressive cast, which includes Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Mary J Blige, Tom Cruise, Diego González Boneta and Julia Hough. Brand will get to perform a duet with Alec Baldwin, who is set to play club owner Dennis. The pair will sing REO Speedwagon’s Can’t Fight This Feeling.
But bad news for Shankman is that Amy Adams has had to pass on the role of the journalist in Rock of Ages, who sings a duet with Tom Cruise (Foreigner’s I Wanna Know What Love Is), due to her commitment to play another journalist, Lois Lane, in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. Adams is the third actress to pass on the role, after both Gwyneth Paltrow and Anne Hathaway turned down the part because of other commitments.
Hugh Jackman has turned down the part of The Huntsman in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, The Wrap reports. One would suspect that the Australian actor is keeping his schedule free for The Wolverine, once a new director is found. Jackman is the second actor to turn down the role, after Viggo Mortensen walked away from the project last month. Snow White and the Huntsman will star Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart.
