Writer Diablo Cody became the next big thing in 2007 after writing, and winning an Academy award for, Juno. The 33 year old has since kept herself busy writing a screenplay for Jennifer’s Body as well as creating TV show the United States of Tara. Her most recent project, Young Adult earned largely favourable reviews and a Golden Globe nomination for star Charlize Theron (for our review, click here). Cody always has a way of writing precisely for her character’s voice, and has a talent for making her screenplays current and realistic. Now, though apparently also linked to a new script for an Evil Dead update, Cody is crossing over to the director’s chair, looking to helm her first feature film. The as yet untitled project has a stellar cast including Academy award nominee Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough. Today, it was announced the cast would add Nick Offerman to it’s slate of already impressive stars. The actor, best known for his hilarious role as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation (the best show you probably aren’t watching on TV), adds comedic strength to anything he does. The film is said to follow the story of a young woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a brush with death and heads to Vegas to experience what life has to offer.
