Warner Bros. have confirmed that I Am Legend 2 is in development. The sequel to the apocalyptic Zombie-fest will be produced by Akiva Goldsman and Will Smith, with an eye on placing the latter reprising his role. Yep, that’s right – even with the finality of the first film (spoiler reveal –> i.e. Smith’s character dies).
Will Smith is not committing to starring in the next film until he is happy with the script. The Expatriate Scribe, Arash Amel, has been hired to pen the follow-up to the first film, which was based on a novel by Richard Matheson. It also hasn’t been confirmed whether the film will be a prequel or not, although this would probably be the only sensible conclusion.
If it is a prequel there’s one thing we can look forward to: the return of Sam, the lovable Alsatian. Finger’s crossed.
