On Glee, Chris Colfer made headlines by bringing the openly gay Kurt Hummel to life as well as being one of the only cast members to earn an Emmy nomination. However, the 21 year old break-out star of one of television’s biggest hits doesn’t stop there. He’s a multi-talented young man, proving this by not only transitioning to the big screen, but by writing the movie himself. Struck by Lightning is the story of Carson Phillips (Colfer) who is an ambitious high school student. To gain experience to help get into a writing program at the college of his dreams, he decides to start a literary magazine. However, in order to get contributors, he resorts to blackmailing his classmates. Colfer is joined in the film by Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Drive), among others. Based on the trailer, Struck by Lightning may prove to be just a smart as predecessors Easy A and Mean Girls. There isn’t a release date yet set for Lightning, however director Brian Dannelly‘s last feature, Saved, did earn international distribution, so there’s no reason this project won’t follow in its footsteps. Enjoy the new trailer for Struck by Lightning below.
