Future Lara Croft and Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander is set to headline acclaimed British director Ben Wheatley’s next film, Freakshift.

The forthcoming project from the Free Fire and Sightseers filmmaker is dubbed as a “Cops Vs. Aliens” action flick, which has been a prolonged passion project for Wheatley. Co-written by frequent collaborator Amy Jump, Freakshift follows a gaggle of misfits, who hunt and eliminate nocturnal creatures that wallow underground.

According to sources, Wheatley is eyeing an August 2017 production start, with a theatrical release in the UK and US in 2018. His upcoming film – which blasts into UK cinemas on 31st March – sees Brie Larson, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, and Jack Reynor engage in a hyper-stylised bullet ballet. Free Fire has been gaining critical acclaim since debuting at both the Toronto International, and BFI London Film Festivals last year.

Vikander is still filming Tomb Raider, the massive reboot of the video game to film franchise, and will also be seen in the anticipated period drama Tulip Fever very soon.
