Beauty And The Beast Breaks UK Box Office Records

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is currently on track to open with a magical £18.4M at this weekend’s UK box office. The “Tale as Old as Time” is likely to become the fifth highest grossing three-day opening of all-time, and the highest grossing three-day opening weekend for a PG-rated movie ever.

The Saturday box office of £7.9m was the second highest grossing Saturday ever, only behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In the UK/Ireland, it also delivered the biggest Disney live-action opening of all-time, the biggest March opening weekend of all-time, and currently the largest domestic opening of 2017 to date. At the US box office, the film has taken $170m – making it the seventh-highest debut of all time, the highest March debut ever, and the number one PG movie debut of all time (surpassing Finding Dory). It’s also the highest US debut ever for a Disney live-action title.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellan, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Emma Thompson, director Bill Condon’s film is out now in Disney 3D across the UK.
