It has been confirmed today that Dominic West – acclaimed star of Showtime’s magnificent drama The Affair – will be joining the Tomb Raider reboot, scheduled for release in 2018.

West will star alongside Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft as her father, Richard; a role previously played by Jon Voight, real-life father of former Lara actress Angelina Jolie. Directed by Roar Uthang (The Wave), the film follows Lara as she sets out on her first expedition to finish her father’s research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name.

Richard has a significant presence in most of the video games on which the film is based, primarily 2013’s Tomb Raider and 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. While portrayed as being a slightly neglectful man looking to unlock many of the world’s hidden secrets, he’s also incredibly passionate and serves as Lara’s greatest inspiration.

Production on the film – which also stars Walton Goggins – gets underway very soon, and Warner Bros. Pictures are eyeing a March 16th, 2018 theatrical run.
