Filmoria sat down with leading lady, Alexandra Rosario to talk about her latest film ‘California Dreams’ currently out on iTunes, Amazon, VUDU, Fios, Direct TV etc.

Firstly, congratulations on your latest movie ‘California Dreams’. Can you tell us about the film?
California Dreams is a drama-feature film that follows the story of four women who try to achieve success in Hollywood despite the setbacks they might encounter on their journey. It’s a story about pursuing dreams wholeheartedly, and all that it may take, including facing the obstacles one might encounter on the journey.

You play the lead character in the movie. Can you tell us about her?
My character is Valentina. She is a determined woman who has the dream of becoming a successful actress in Hollywood and has decided to devote her life to the pursuit of this goal. In her visions of this new life, she had never imagined the hardships of the journey, the loneliness, the rejection and the financial needs which take an emotional toll on her vulnerable heart and lead her to making decisions that bring unexpected consequences. Valentina has a lot of depth and complexity. Playing her was one of the best experiences I have had as an actress.

The movie has an all-female cast. Can you describe some of the other characters?
Aside from Valentina, there is Sofia, Jemima and Marina. Sofia is a young devoted mother who ends up losing what she loves the most in the hopes of winning success as a singer. Jemima is a sassy socialite who migrates to Hollywood to become a reality television star, even when it meant walking away from her marriage. Marina is a naïve model who loses herself in her attempts to be discovered. These are all fascinating characters played beautiful and extraordinary actresses.

As the title of the movie suggests, was the film made in California? How does filming in LA compare for that in NY for you?
Yes, the movie was shot in Los Angeles, California. It was wonderful that we were able to film in the location where the story takes place. It brought so much authenticity to the film. For the actors, it was very organic to live truthfully in our character’s world. I have been fortunate to have had the experience of filming in both New York and Los Angeles for different projects. When filming inside a studio, there really isn’t much of a difference. Both cities have excellent, well-equipped studios. I’d say for exterior shoots that New York City is more crowded, but both cities bring their unique charm and energy to the shoot.

As a leading actress, your career so far extends from TV shows and making movies to off-Broadway theatre. Do you have a particular preference?
I honestly love acting in any medium. However, if I had to choose, I would go for television sitcoms. I find so much joy in this type of acting.

Who inspires you as an actor?
The extremely talented Meryl Streep, the legendary Vivien Leigh, the incredibly gracious Penelope Cruz and the comedic geniuses Julia Dreyfus and Lucille Ball. Each of them bring something special, and I admire them all.

Finally, what can we look forward to from you?
I am working on the second season of the Spanish sitcom Chicos de Alquiler. I also have a film scheduled to shoot this summer and a new comedy series on the agenda. Like any actor in love with their craft, I am open to any good project that comes my way!

Thank you Alexandra – it has been a pleasure. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the near future.
