Universal and Dream Works Animation have another baby on the way – but his arrival isn’t for another four years. That’s some gestation period!
The infant in question is The Boss Baby 2, with the happy event scheduled to hit US cinemas on 26 March 2021. Whether the power-obsessed tot has aged at all remains to be seen, but he’ll still be voiced by Alec Baldwin. And the creative team from the first film is also set to return.
What looks like a budding franchise is originally based on Marla Frazee’s series of picture books about the Templeton family and their new addition, a cute infant aiming for glory and imagining his portrait hanging on the wall for ever more.
The Boss Baby proved to be something of a sleeper hit this year, despite mixed critical reactions. The story about the power-obsessed infant in a suit has earned $468 million to date at the global box office. The idea of a baby leading a global campaign against puppies was more appealing that it might sound.
Before then, the next offering from Dream Works is Captain Underpants, which lands in US cinemas on 2 June and in the UK on 28 July.
