A week is a long time in the world of superheroes. Just a few days ago, the word was that Ryan Reynolds had filmed a scene for the forthcoming Logan. Regardless of whether it was possibly a cameo or post-credits scene, the story was soon being denied – by Reynolds himself, along with Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold. But by that time, the story had gained some traction and was being qualified with the line that nobody had said that Deadpool and Wolverine would actually be seen together on screen. Frantic semantics.
So we don’t know if it’ll happen or not. In the meantime, however, Ryan Reynolds has taken to Twitter to explain the real reason why the Merc With A Mouth wouldn’t work in Logan.
So he still wants a Deadpool/Wolverine movie. But wasn’t he encouraging his “internet friends” only a few weeks ago to help persuade Jackman to get involved, instead of hanging up his mutton chops for good after Logan?
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Deadpool can’t pop up once the credits have rolled on Logan. It’s been done before, after all. But, for now at least, it does sound as if Wolverine and Deadpool won’t be going head to head.
Logan – with or without a post-credits appearance from Deadpool – opens in the UK on 3 March 2017.
