The spin-off from the scarily popular fright franchise The Conjuring is keeping it in the family. Taissa Farmiga has just been cast in the title role of The Nun. She’s the younger sister of Vera Farmiga who, along with Patrick Wilson, play the pair of paranormal investigators at the centre of James Wan’s The Conjuring.
The film is inspired by the demon young nun from The Conjuring 2, who came to life and later attacked Vera Farmiga’s character. It’s also the second spin-off from The Conjuring. First out of the blocks was Annabelle, which grossed $256 million worldwide and now has a sequel on the way. Annabelle:Creation arrives in American and UK cinemas on 11 August.
James Wan, along with Peter Safran, is also producing The Nun, and has co-scripted the film with Gary Dauberman. Demian Bechir will appear opposite Farmiga, although details of his role are still under wraps, and British director Corin Hardy is at the helm. The film is already scheduled for release on Friday, 13th July in the States.
Meanwhile, Taissa Farmiga is on our screens in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply and she’s currently in production on What They Had, which also stars Michael Shannon and Hilary Swank.
