Based on the Marvel comics of the same name, Marvel officially releases the first trailer for their new TV Series Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger. Even though the show is only set to premier in 2018, there is already a lot to be excited about. The upcoming show will be Marvel’s first collaboration with the US channel Freeform, previously known as ABC Family, which is also the home of Pretty Little Liars. Although Freeform is owned by the Disney-ABC Television Group, fans can expect a dark and gritty show judging from the first trailer.
Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Dagger (Olivia Holt) is set to be a superhero coming-of-age story about two teenagers who are seemingly complete opposites. Whilst the trailer do not reveal too much about the story, it shows a glimpse of the apparent difficult lives they both struggle with, which inevitable will lead them together. In the comics Cloak has the power of manipulating a darkforce dimension, which could make him intangible and teleport himself and others through the dimension. We got to see a glimpse of Dagger’s powers in the trailer, her ability to create daggers out of light, but no revelation of Cloak’s powers yet. It is also uncertain if it will be an exact replica of the comic books or not.
Marvel continues to make brave and risky decisions with their television programs. Cloak & Dagger will be Aubrey and Olivia’s first major role in a TV series. Aubrey had a minor role in The Night of, whereas Olivia has appeared in Disney shows like Kickin’ It and Shake It Up! The darkness of the show resembles the same aura as their Netflix shows, but with the new dimension of teenagers. The new show and channel collaboration is just another stepping stone for the Marvel industry.
