David Scala’s LGBT Romantic Comedy ‘Engaged’ selected for Palms Springs and Frameline: San Francisco LGBTQ+ Film Festival

Writer/Director David Scala’s Engaged shares a story of a man who wants to propose to his long-time boyfriend, until his insecurities catch up with him. This topical short film has screened at numerous high profile film festivals such as Outfest Fusion LGBTQ People of Color Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival. Engaged is now set to screen at the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs International ShortFest and San Francisco LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

Triple threat David Scala is a second-generation Filipino-American writer, director, and producer who received his BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ film school. Scala’s previous short films won top awards at over 40 film festivals in the US and around the world. His previous LGBT short Grotto (2013) won the Outstanding Emerging Talent at FilmOUT San Diego and has screened in over 30 festivals internationally. He is currently developing multiple projects and will be making his feature directorial debut.

Producer and costume designer Chester Algernal Gordon was the first male African-American designer to compete in competition at Cannes Film Festival with Martin Scorsese’s Port Authority, the film also features Leyna Bloom who is the first transgender actress of color to star in a film at Cannes. Gordon’s films have played in over 200 festivals combined including South by Southwest, Sundance, Outfest and the American Black Film Festival. He is also the producer for the TV show My House, which is currently airing on Viceland.

Ariel Max is an award-winning composer who created music for the Emmy – nominated feature film The Tale which stars Golden Globe winner and Academy nominee Laura Dern. The beautiful cinematography was created by Jesse Coyote Sanchez-Strauss.

Engaged will screen at Palm Springs International ShortFest on June 21 at 12:45 pm and at Frameline: San Francisco LGBTQ+ Film Festival on June 22 at 11 am and June 30 at 2 pm.
