As the first female-led Marvel Studios movie, Captain Marvel is finally beginning to take shape. As reports suggest directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been tapped to helm the long-awaited comic book adaptation.
Since Oscar winner Brie Larson’s confirmed casting as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel was announced, there has been much speculation over potential choices Marvel had in consideration. Including several female directors. But after a lengthy search, the hiring of Boden and Fleck will no doubt drive some interesting debates on Marvel’s potential vision for the character. Variety reports that studio executives had a succession of meetings with the pair – and additionally wanted to be confident with film’s script, instead of hastily assigning a director.
With a filmography leaning on a far more dramatic side, Boden and Fleck are another out of the box choosing for the studio. However, we have previously seen these surprising choices of filmmakers prove more than their worth. Following the success of James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, and the Russo Brothers’ work on two Captain America sequels. With the aforementioned now on Marvel’s front lines, as the directors for the upcoming Avengers team up films.
In addition to their work on Mississippi Grind and the incredible Half Nelson, Boden and Fleck are also experienced in the world of television – directing episodes for Billions and The Affair.
Captain Marvel is scheduled for cinema release on March 8th 2019.
