Marvel have been releasing blockbusters on the big screen and hard hitting television shows mainly on the popular subscription service Netflix. There have been many new Marvel shows slated for the new future, but none that will be like Marvel’s New Warriors.
The television series, set to be released in 2018 on the US television channel Freeform, will be Marvel’s first 30-minute comedy series. Alongside New Warriors, Marvel also agreed a deal for its gritty young adult drama Cloak & Dagger for the network, also released in 2018. Staying in line with the audience of young adults, the New Warriors will feature six young adults and/or teenagers, similiar to what the Teen Titans are to The Justice League.
The main characters and cast will include Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), Mister Immortal (Derek Theler), Night Trasher (Jeremy Tardy), Speedball (Calum Worthy), Microbe (Matthew Moy), Debrii (Kate Comer). The greatly diverse cast have all appeared on multiple television shows. However, the most prominent member, fictionally and in real life, is Milana Vayntrub, who recently appeared on hit series’ such as This is Us and Silicon Valley.
Kevin Biegel has been brought on as the showrunner and executive producer of the show. His past credentials include being the co-creator of Cougar Town, creator of Enlisted and a past writer and producer for Scrubs. Jeph Loeb (The Defenders) and Jim Chory (The Defenders, Legion, Iron Fist) are also executive producers for New Warriors.
