Carrie Fisher, the actress best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, has passed away following a heart attack, her family have revealed.
It was announced earlier this week that Fisher had suffered a heart attack whilst on board a flight from London to Los Angeles, where she was taken straight to UCLA Medical Centre for emergency care. Her mother, the actress Debbie Reynolds, had written on her Facebook thanking fans and family for their well-wishes, and confirmed that Fisher was in a stable condition.
However, the world received sad news when Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, released a statement today announcing that her mother had passed away this morning. The statement, read by a spokesman, said:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8.55 this morning.”
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
