DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow™: The Complete Second Season DVD Review

Say what you want about the current state of DC’s cinematic universe, the fact of the matter is that their television status is one of the greatest of fan bases and positivity. This new generation of DC shows has gone from strength to strength; the introduction of Arrow paving the way for The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, leading to crossovers and ultimately extended universe of its own. With each show on their own standing tall, a show that could have easily faltered in Legends of Tomorrow, but instead this ragtag group of what was essentially side characters has risen to a new level of brilliance. With DC’s Legends of Tomorrow™: The Complete Second Season out now here’s our lowdown of how impressive this second stint is.

Moving swiftly on from the debacle of Vandal Savage in its middling first season, Legends Of Tomorrow would prove to even the most cautious members of its audience that there was certainly so much more to tell from the viewpoint of its heroic members. Gone are any Hawgirl/Hawkman tales, the tiresome nature of the Vandal Savage arc is removed and now we essentially have a tight-nit team forged to take on an emerging new team of villains, The Legion of Doom.

Consisting of Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), this new superteam of villains combine to challenge the Legends as the JLA presents the task of retrieving the Spear of Destiny before all hell breaks loose. This new mission would present many changes within the show, including the introduction of Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) and Vixen (a brilliant Maisie Richardson-Sellers), along with the usual crossover appearances and more.

Moving on from the repetitive and taxing story of Vandal Savage and his dealings with the ‘Hawks’ was the best thing that ever happened to Legends of Tomorrow and Season 2 is all the better for it, feeling fresher than ever and really solidifying a team that you can get behind who not only feel heroic but also provide a high level of connectivity. Whether you’re laughing with them or witnessing them combine skills in battle, this newly forged team of Legends feels like they can carry the show a long way and there is real grounds for the show to go from strength to strength. This is also helped along by the familiar faces of the villains this season, each of them seen before in the other DC offshoot shows and never quite utilised as well as they could have been, but here is their redemption.

To divulge about many of the episodes would be criminal from any viewers’ standpoint so let us just say that there are some real gems in the full series episodes list, including some great alternate universe easter eggs that make for fantastic viewing and some truly difficult decisions for the team that could very well affect so much more down the line…

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 has picked up significantly and paves the way for so much more promise in the future for yet another DC show that is making waves on the small screen.
