It has become one of the most talked about Netflix Original series since Stranger Things and now 13 Reasons Why is getting a second series, following its successful first stint.
If you’re not familiar with the show, it focuses on a group of high school students as they deal with the aftermath of fellow student Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford) committing suicide. Having left behind tapes that relate to specific individuals who were involved in Hannah’s devastating decision to end her life, the show follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he begins listening to each person’s tape and uncover the true extent of Hannah’s suicide.
A show that we gave a five-star review to, 13 Reasons Why is unlike any show you will experience this year and it comes as no surprise that something so striking has been sanctioned for a second series. While details of the focus in season two are unknown at this stage, a new showrunner in Tony and Pulitzer winner Brian Yorkey has been confirmed .
One would assume that the show will continue to deal with the overall effect and aftermath of the suicide on the students involved but it is certainly one that will be of great interest to see where the show extends from here, especially considering it could have easily been a one-season-and-done setup.
