6 Things You Didn’t Know About Boba Fett

Without a doubt, Boba Fett is one of the most revered characters in the Star Wars saga. Mainly known in the original Star Wars trilogy, with a debut in The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett was known to be a man of mystery and a cool jet pack. The prequels shed more light into the clone’s backstory, as the son of the dangerous bounty hunter Jango Fett. Any fan of the Star Wars franchise will know his story, but these are 6 things that you might not have known about the character.
1. Boba Fett only had four lines of dialogue
A man who did not have much to say at all, yet each line was flawlessly delivered and had a great impact. If you add up his total screen time in Episode V and Episode VI, it comes to less than thirty minutes. That’s not a lot of time to fall in love with a character, yet he is admired just for that reason. His small part made a colossal impact. His slick hands, cool gadgets and mystic aura is often compared to James Bond. However, he could be compared to Anthony Hopkins’ role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter with just under 25 minutes of screen time in Silence of the Lambs, which still managed to get him an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
2. The controversy with his death
Many people saw Boba Fett fall into the depths of the Sarlacc Pitt when his jet pack was accidentally destroyed by a temporarily blinded Han Solo. A very disappointing result for many fans of Boba, right in the early stages of Return of the Jedi as well. However, his supposed death is still a mystery and many believe that he escaped the Sarlacc Pitt. In his plethora of gadgets, there might just have been one that helps him escape. George Lucas has even said, in the special DVD commentary and interviews, that he regrets not making his death glamorous enough, and he wished he knew how beloved Boba Fett would be. He has also said that he regrets not shooting an additional scene where we get to see Boba Fett creeping out of the pit.
3. He was a rejected Darth Vader costume
The Mandalorian armour is one of the the many things revered about the character. However, it was initially one of the concept designs for Darth Vader. The initial concept was designed by Ralph McQuarrie, where Joe Johnston, a visual effects artist, finalized the suit. The early stages had his suit all white, very similiar to a storm trooper’s suit. However, to make him more visually appealing the grey base and faded colour was added, greatly symbolizing his reduced morality.
4. He had friends
Boba Fett might not have gone to school and got popular enough to be prom king. However, he had friends, a group of fellow mercenaries. After witnessing the death of his father, he swore to take revenge on Mace Windu. His team of bounty hunters included Aurra Sing, Bossk, Castas and himself, and were set on a path to kill the Jedi Master. Even though he did not kill Mace Windu, which came to the courtesy of Chancellor Palpatine, he managed to obtain leadership traits, which he later formed his own syndicate of bounty hunters.
5. He’s fought both Jedi and Sith
A mercenary is not bounded by good nor evil, and usually works for the side that pays. In his early revenge days, not working as a bounty hunter yet, he attempts to kill both Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker who was with him. During his syndicate days, he fights Count Dooku, and is later hired by Darth Vader to locate Han Solo, where he also faces off against Luke Skywalker. Unbeknowst to Darth Vader at the time, when trying to capture Han Solo, Boba Fett gains crucial information about a boy, that was accompanying Han Solo. Boba catches up to the group and has his first encounter with the early Jedi Padawan, but Luke manages to escape. Boba reports back to Darth Vader about his encounters, unknowingly to Boba, as the first person to tell the Dark Lord that he has a son.
6. He might be getting a standalone film
Star Wars is gaining a lot of hype with the anthology series’ slowly surfacing, expanding the universe outside of the Skywalker lineage. The first of the series, Rogue One, was hugely celebrated in its release in December 2016. The Han Solo spin-off is getting a lot of momentum, featuring Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as a young Han Solo and Lando Calrissian respectively. The third standalone film is planned to be all about Boba Fett. The second standalone film was originally penned to be the Boba Fett one, with Josh Trank as the director. However, his attachment soon disintegrated after the recent remake of Fantastic Four, and the Han Solo film grabbed the spot. It was also recently announced that there was a cancelled teaser on the Boba Fett standalone which might have been shown during last year’s Star Wars Celebration. There is still development in the film, with a supposed release date in 2020.
