Arrow are delighted to announce the UK release of Ismael’s Ghosts, in cinemas from 1st June 2018. The film opened the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2017, where it received its World Premiere. It then went on to screen in Official Competition at the 2017 New York Film Festival. Arnaud Desplechin’s Ismael’s Ghosts sees the filmmaker further examine his signature themes of emotional turmoil and autobiography, and features outstanding performances from Mathieu Amalric (Munich, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose, Inception) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac, L’effrontée).
Twenty-one years ago, Carlotta (Cotillard) ran away. She ran away from her life and her husband, believed to be dead. Now, twenty-one years later, she is back from the void. Her husband Ismael (Amalric) has been busy rebuilding a life for himself with Sylvia (Gainsbourg) and working on his next feature film. As Ismael’s trials and tribulations unfurl, so too do those of his new film’s protagonist: the idle, funny and reckless diplomat Ivan Dédalus (Louis Garrel).
With Ismael’s Ghosts, Desplechin returns once more to the past; layering narrative upon narrative as a means of stepping back in time and proving yet again that his brand of genius lies in his ability to find light in the darkest of places.
Ismael’s Ghosts will be released in UK cinemas on 1st June 2018.
