Divergent Star Will NOT Appear In TV Movie

For all their faults, this author has always been favourable to the Divergent series. They are messy, clunky, and preposterous, but constantly full of intriguing ideas, and cinematic potential: not least because of the fantastic Shailene Woodley standing firm in the central role. Unfortunately for fans, she’ll no longer be reprising her role as Tris Prior for the upcoming Ascendant TV Movie, which Lionsgate confirmed following disappointment box-office performance and budget cuts on the third instalment, Allegiant.
Last year, the studio decided to outright remove the final instalment – scheduled for direction by Lee Toland Krieger of The Age of Adaline fame – from the silver screen, plonking it onto the clumsy televisual platform, much to many’s dismay. Woodley, who’ll be seen next in HBO’s mini-series Big Little Lies alongside the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern, has stated that she “didn’t sign up to be in a television show,” when discussing the Divergent franchise with Screen Rant.
It remains to be seen whether a number of the high-profile ensemble (Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Ansel Elgort et al) return to star in Ascendant, or whether they too will jump-ship as Woodley has.
As more information about the fated TV Movie develops, you can be sure to catch it here at Filmoria.
