If anyone understands scale, it’s Michael Bay. His films – on a technical and aesthetic level – are unfathomably operatic; enormous, enveloping, transporting. Whilst it remains trendy to outright reject everything he makes, this author is an huge fan of his tireless work, and the first trailer for fifth Transformers picture does not disappoint.

Courtesy of Paramount Pictures UK, we can share with you the enthralling and provocative first promotional piece for Transformers: The Last Knight which stars Mark Wahlberg, Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, John Tutturo, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel, and Anthony Hopkins.

The screen legend and Westworld star provides a chilling and profound monologue voiceover here, as the action spans global warfare – from flesh, to metal – and sees Optimus Prime return from the grave to lead the Autobots once again, but with disastrous consequences. Let’s just say the final images are pretty darn shocking…

Optimus Prime finds his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to find he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the planet back to life, but in order to do so he needs to find an artifact, and that artifact is on Earth.

Transformers fans (myself included) will get to see The Last Knight in UK cinemas from 23rd June, 2017. Stick with Filmoria for much more on the Autobots and Decepticons over the coming months.
