The classic American crime drama CHiPs is the latest show to get the Hollywood reboot treatment, and Warner Bros. have offered up the first trailer for the movie.
Originally broadcast between 1977 to 1983, CHiPs followed two Californian Highway Patrolmen – Officer Jon Baker (Larry Wilcox) and Officer Frank Poncherello (Erik Estrada). and grew to become one of the most iconic shows on American television. Reprising the characters for the film adaptation are Dax Shepard as Baker and Michael Peña as Poncherello.
Though the TV show was more of a light drama with comedy elements, the film seems to have taken the full on buddy comedy route. Which certainly makes sense comparing this to its television counterpart.
Check out the trailer below.
Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.
Based on producer Rick Rosner’s television show of the same name, CHiPs is scheduled to be released on March 24, 2017 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Written and directed by Dax Shepard – he also stars alongside Michael Peña, Vincent D’Onofrio, Adam Brody, Rosa Salazar, Vida Guerra, and Kristen Bell.
