Elle Fanning is one of our favourite actresses at work today. She has a vast emotional range, and tailors complex performances across a multitude of contrasting genres, consistently selecting fine filmmakers to work alongside.
Fresh from the Berlin International Festival – where her upcoming biopic Mary Shelley is available for purchase – is a first-look image of Fanning in the titular role of the acclaimed “Frankenstein” author. Directed by Saudi auteur Haifaa al-Mansou, who rose to fame with her debut feature Wadjda, the picture features an impressive supporting cast including the likes of Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, Maisie Williams, Joanne Froggatt, and Tom Sturridge.
Fanning has been hugely impressing recently with fantastic work in The Neon Demon, Live by Night, and most recently 20th Century Women (read our full review here), and she’ll be starring in two further big hitters this year: Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled (rumoured for Cannes selection), and A24’s London-based comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties.
HayWay Films are handling the International distribution rights to Mary Shelley following test footage screened at the festival, and further information about the release is incoming. For now, take a look at the first still below…
