American auteur Terrence Malick readies a stellar ensemble cast for his latest drama Song to Song. Here's the first trailer. Gosling, Mara, Fassbender & Portman Lead First Song To Song Trailer

Continuing his recent trend of highly regular releasing – something legendary auteur Terrence Malick was never known for in a past life – the first trailer for his forthcoming drama Song to Song has now arrived online.

Featuring a stellar cast including the likes of Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, and Natalie Portman, with support from Cate Blanchett, Hayley Bennett, Val Kilmer, Benicio del Toro, and Trevante Rhodes, and cameo appearances from Iggy Pop, Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea, and the Black Lips. The film takes place in the Austin, Texas music scene, and details two particularly sporadic and complex love triangles, as a duo of couples “chase success through a rock‘n’roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.”

This being a Malick film, the trailer is simply laden with the filmmaker’s visual trademarks: sparse framing, wide angles, natural lighting, heady cinematography. Song to Song looks almost identical to his recent Knight of Cups aesthetically, but we are expecting a very different beast thematically. Give the trailer a look below…
