It may be a long way off yet compared to other DC/Warner Bros properties such as Wonder Woman, Justice League and The Batman, but that doesn’t stop the news coming in that Green Lantern Corps is certainly a project with the green light, with the writing team of David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes confirmed as the guys looking to wash away that foul taste of the failed Green Lantern movie.
Goyer will also be executive producing the project alongside DC stalwart Geoff Johns and John Berg.
What’s most intriguing is the news that the movie is being dubbed as ‘Lethal Weapon’-esque, with not only Hal Jordan being the focal hero, but also John Stewart. This makes for a rather intriguing on-screen revisiting of the Green Lantern universe and could well be a project to keep a very close eye on. Of course, the casting rumours will be in full force, with everything from Tyrese Gibson to Idris Elba and beyond to be declared as front runners, but the idea of a team-up/buddy movie could be something unique for the superhero genre. It may well even bolster DC’s cinematic charge in the more light-hearted frame of mind.
For now, we can await the arrival of this year’s anticipated Wonder Woman movie and the impending Justice League team-up to see if DC are going to win over audience.
