Courtesy of Manga Entertainment UK, a new trailer for the UK release of In This Corner of the World has been released. Directed by Sunao Katabuchi (Mai Mai Miracle), and based off the beloved manga by Fumiyo Kouno, the film is a hugely emotional look at a small town outside Hiroshima in the 1940s. Katabuchi, a former Studio Ghibli animator, brings a considerable pedigree to the project, and the animation is breathtaking. A departure from what you’d find in Ghibli, but a unique and interesting style with a truly impressive attention to detail.

The trailer does a good job establishing the films lighter, more relaxed tone. Don’t be fooled, though: the film is about surviving during the second World War. While In This Corner of the World certainly has a great sense of humour, it is not afraid to become a harrowing, touching look at family and perseverance.
