Late-night talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel has been officially confirmed as the host of the 89th Academy Awards.

After impressing as host of the Emmy Awards last year, Kimmel has landed the leading ceremony gig which will see his follow in the footsteps of recent hosts such as Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock, Neil Patrick Harris, and Seth Macfarlane. Kimmel has hosted his own nightly hour long talk show – called Jimmy Kimmel Live! – since 2003.

He has also made cameo appearances in films such as Pitch Perfect 2 and Ted 2, as well as TV shows including Sesame Street and Entourage.

Frontrunners for big prizes at the Oscars next year include Moonlight, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea, and Jackie.

The awards will be staged in Los Angeles on 26th February, 2017.
