It came as somewhat of a shock when Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) was killed by villain Damien Darhk a good season again now. Having played one of the most pivotal characters in Oliver Queen’s life, some argued that it was a risk move in doing so but ultimately this season of Arrow has arguably been the best since its early days.

That being said, there has certainly been a void left with the lack of Cassidy and now it would seem she is returning. This time around she won’t be returning from the dead though, and instead will become a series regular as the villainous Black Siren.

Having already popped up in The Flash and also as part of Prometheus’ calculated game this season in Arrow, Black Siren is currently held prisoner but it looks like she will be breaking out from ARGUS custody. Whether or not this means she’ll be one of the big bads of season six or whether she’ll actually be joining Team Arrow is anyone’s guess but here’s what executive producer Marc Guggenheim had to say.

“One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us. Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren. Though as her appearances on Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family.”

Arrow airs on The CW on Wednesday and you can catch up with all our reviews here.
