Nate Parker’s uncompromising drama The Birth of a Nation opens in UK cinemas today (read our official verdict here), and to celebrate, Fox Searchlight Pictures have provided us with a new clip from the film.

Starring Nate Parker, Armie Hammer, Jackie Earle Hayley and Mark Boone Junior, the Sundance hit is set to stir audience emotions with its vicious look at racism and slavery in the American South. Check out the clip entitled “False Prophets” below.

Set against the American South thirty years prior to the outbreak of the Civil War and based on a true story, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher whose financially strained owner Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer) accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself, his wife Cherry (Aja Naomi King) and fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

The Birth of a Nation opens across the United Kingdom from today (Friday, 9th December).
