Actor-director James Franco returns to duel roles in-front and behind the camera for his new period adaptation In Dubious Battle, which receives a visually-rich trailer and poster today.
The film – which is based on the seminal John Steinbeck novel, with a screenplay from Matthew Rager – offers a particularly brilliant cast, with Franco in the leading role alongside Selena Gomez, Nat Wolff, Ed Harris, Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Shepard, Zach Braff, and Bryan Cranston.
The trailer is thick with a sombre tone, rich location photography, and impressive costume and period detailing. Give it a whirl below, along with the new one-sheet artwork.
In the California apple country, nine hundred migratory workers rise up “in dubious battle” against the landowners. The group takes on a life of its own—stronger than its individual members and more frightening. Led by the doomed Jim Nolan, the strike is founded on his tragic idealism—on the “courage never to submit or yield.” Published in 1936, In Dubious Battle is considered the first major work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck.
In Dubious Battle has no confirmed release date as of yet, but after impressing on the festival circuit late last year, we expect a UK and US unveiling in the coming months.
