We at Filmoria LOVED Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper – it’s one of the best films this year – and yet another slice of immeasurable genius in the Parisian’s impeccable filmography.
Great news has arrived overnight that he is already gearing up for his next project, entitled Wasp Network, in which he’ll once again work from his own screenplay. The film is based on Fernando Morais’ book “The Last Soldiers of the Cold War.” RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira will produce alongside CG Cinema’s Charles Gillibert. RT’s Lourenço Sant’Anna, and Sophie Mas will executive produce.
Wasp Network centres on Cuban spies in American territory during the 1990s when anti-Castro groups based in Florida carried out military attacks on Cuba, and the Cuban government struck back with the Wasp Network to infiltrate those organizations.
The acclaimed auteur has previously received five Palme d’Or nominations at the Festival de Cannes, and took home the prize for Best Director last year for the Kristen Stewart vehicle, Personal Shopper. Assayas also directed Stewart to a Caesar Award for her outstanding performance in his 2014 Cannes entry, Clouds of Sils Maria.
