Oscar-winning drama Terms of Endearment will star Oprah Winfrey as the lead in a much-anticipated remake of the 1983 classic. The film will see Winfrey reunite with director Lee Daniels, both of whom worked on The Butler released in 2013.
Terms of Endearment covers 30 years of a rocky relationship between a feisty mother and her equally headstrong daughter. Winfrey will no doubt do justice to Larry McMurtry’s acclaimed eponymous novel, on which the film is based.
The original film won five Academy Awards and four Golden Globes, which set the bar sky-high for any courageous successor willing to take on a retelling. It is an ambitious project which can only flourish under Paramount Pictures, who have secured the rights for this Daniels-Winfrey vehicle.
Winfrey is currently on location shooting for another adaption, A Wrinkle in Time. This is an award-winning sci-fi novel about a girl whose government scientist father goes AWOL after working on a secretive project. Winfrey has also taken on a role in HBO TV drama The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
