If not consistently in the reliable hands of Joy and American Hustle director David O.Russell, we think it’s fair to imply that the recent career choices of screen legend Robert De Niro (Casino) have been rather questionable, as we particularly remain scarred by last year’s Dirty Grandpa alongside Zac Efron who will be seen in Baywatch this Summer.
But judging the first glimpses of HBO’s new show The Wizard Of Lies, the Hollywood heavyweight looks to be back on track.
Directed by Rain Man and Good Morning Vietnam‘s Barry Levinson (turning 75 this year), De Niro will be tackling the role of Bernie Madoff, an infamous figure who was once a stockbroker renowned for a Ponzi scheme which was considered to be the largest financial fraud in American history.
He is reunited here with Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns) who has already starred alongside De Niro in the likes of Matthew Vaughn’s Stardust and Luc Besson’s The Family, joined by Alessandro Nivola (A Most Violent Year/Face-Off).
The show will debut on HBO in May, with Sky Atlantic set to screen the show here in the UK soon after.
