Popular and iconic movies like the Hangover trilogy featuring Bradley Cooper, The Gambler featuring Mark Wahlberg, Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig as James Bond and Ocean’s Eleven featuring Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and many more may not have featured blackjack in particular, but they remain the gold standard in Hollywood movies about banking game or gambling in general.

Here is our top three movies about Blackjack.

  1. 21

Simply put, there is no blackjack movie like 21. The movie was released in theatres and the movie is inspired by the story of the infamous MIT blackjack team that cheated their way into millions of dollars from casinos in America. The movie was directed by Robert Luketic and stars Kevin Spacey as Micky Rosa who trains his brightest and smartest students (Mathematicians) in the mastery of card counting, before sending them on loose on Las Vegas casinos where they ended up cheating their way out of millions of dollars.

The movie has everything – it is exhilarating, thrilling and keeps the viewers on their toes which makes it the ultimate depiction of blackjack.

Honorable mention to Breaking Vegas, a documentary also about the tale of the MIT blackjack team.

  1. Rain Man

This movie was released way back in 1988 starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as brothers, Charlie Babbit and Raymond Babbit respectively, whom teamed up to Las Vegas on a mission that was invigorating, frightening and almost often life threatening.

Raymond is specially gifted autistic with a natural born talent in counting cards – which his brother realized and they both used in making so much in Las Vegas Casinos. This is definitely worthy of top three mention.

  1. Casino

Unlike the other two movies, Casino is exactly about blackjack. It has an iconic blackjack scene that remains one of the most pivotal scenes in the movie. Starring Oscar winners, Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci as well as one of the most popular actress of her time, Sharon Stone.

In the scene, Pesci (who is the tough guy in the movie) notices some gamblers cheating at blackjack – they were spooking, a popular method of cheating at blackjack. Pesci grabs the cheat and asks him to either forfeit all his winning or he could keep them or get his fingers smashed – guess what the cheat chose.
