It’s pretty easy to see that 2018 is going to be a great year for video games, with all the announcements of upcoming games slowly making its way to passionate fans.

Despite the fact that January didn’t see a lot of releases, some big titles such as Monster Hunter: World, Street Fighter V Arcade Edition, and Dragon Ball FighterZ prove that the game industry is still going in the right track. With 9 months left to go before 2019 rolls around, here’s a list of upcoming games that you should definitely watch out for this 2018.

Metal Gear: Survive

Metal Gear is one of the longest-running and most loved video game series of all time. First started in 1987 by game creator Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear is well-known for its clever stealth missions, interesting characters, and solid storylines. However, Metal Gear: Survive is the first game that Konami will be releasing without Kojima in the development team, so who knows how this will turn out. Unlike the past Metal Gear games, Metal Gear: Survive is an open world, co-op survival game—a stark change in the much-beloved game series. And hopefully, it’s a worthy sequel.

Metal Gear: Survive is set to be released on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Feb. 26, 2018.

Far Cry 5

An open world adventure where players get to shoot down criminals, hunt enemy bases, and explore different parts of the world, the Far Cry series is one of the most hyped up games in Ubisoft’s game arsenal so far. It may be the 11th iteration—albeit the 5th in the main series—, but Far Cry’s rabid fans are proof that first person shooting games will never get old.

Far Cry 5 is set to be released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on Mar. 2017, 2018.

Insurgency: Sandstorm

Insurgency: Sandstorm is the third iteration in the Insurgency series, which was first released in 2007. It’s pretty similar to most first person shooter games such as Call of Duty, except it’s more hardcore. Unlike the typical FPS games though, the series focuses more on tactical, team-based gameplay. Which is perfect because Insurgency: Sandstorm is releasing with multiplayer, so you can now go have fun with your friends even if you’re miles apart from each other.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is set to be released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2018.

God of War

Another long-standing franchise, God of War has been around since forever yet their winning formula for games still seem to be working, and it’s working really well. Unlike the past God of War games though, players will be delving into the world of Norse mythology this time, an interesting diversion from the use of Greek myths and characters in the past. This reveal has definitely surprised some of the fans, but it’s a change that most are willing to accept and are actually looking forward to.

God of War is set to be released on the PS4 in early 2018.

Red Dead Redemption 2

When Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010, the audience absolutely went wild. Often considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, critics praised almost everything about it—gameplay, music, art, even the storytelling. Several gaming publications even labelled it ‘Game of the Year’, and its millions of fans immediately anticipated a sequel. A decade later, it’s finally getting one. The next itineration in the series is actually a prequel, but expect a lot of gunfights, missions, and open world adventures. With all this hype, it’s no surprise that Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably one of the most highly anticipated games of 2018 so far.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to be released on the PS4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.

Shenmue 3

Shenmue is one of those old games that have now turned into a cult classic. Released in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, this series’ long-standing fans have been waiting for this sequel for almost two decades. Unlike the last two games, however, SEGA has nothing to do with this 3rd iteration in the series, having turned over the game’s rights to a much smaller game publisher. Nevertheless, with all the hype surrounding this much-anticipated classic, here’s to hoping that Shenmue 3 actually lives up to all expectations.

Shenmue 3 is set to be released on the PS4 and PC in late 2018.

Anthem

Last year, Electronic Arts took a lot of fire last year due to the Star Wars: Battfront issue involving the company’s aggressive money-making tactics. This year, EA is releasing Anthem, a third-person co-op game set in a fictional universe developed by Mass Effect developer, BioWare. Anthem is said to be EA’s answer to Destiny 2, Activision’s hit multiplayer game of 2017.

Anthem is set to be released on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in late 2018.

Sea of Thieves

There aren’t a lot of Xbox One exclusives, but if you’re someone who enjoys collecting them, then you’re in luck. In Sea of Thieves, you can play as a captain on a pirate ship, hunt for treasures, explore the seven seas, and compete against other pirates with the same goals as you.  If you like multiplayer games with adventure aspects, then Sea of Thieves is one upcoming game that you definitely shouldn’t miss this 2018.

Sea of Thieves is set to be released on the Xbox One and PC on March 20, 2018.

The Last of Us 2

The Last of Us is one of those games that stays with you long after you’re done playing it. A survival horror game exclusively released on the PS4, the Last of Us was a huge hit when it was first released in 2013. With its masterful storytelling and captivating characters, it’s no surprise that the game managed to garner a lot of fans. Let’s all hope that this sequel—or rather, prequel, as it takes place five years before the event of the first game— won’t let anyone down.

The Last of Us 2 is set to be released on the PS4 in late 2018.

As you can see, 2018 is a great year to get into gaming once more. A lot of major franchises are releasing new sequels this year, and there are plenty of old classics that are here for a comeback as well. With all these announcements, it’s impossible not to feel the hype! What about you, what upcoming games are you watching out for this 2018?
