Just can’t afford that dream trip of a lifetime to Las Vegas yet? No need for a shotgun wedding or lack the stamina for a trip to the USA? Las Vegas has that allure to gamblers worldwide. It is hands down, the mecca of gambling.

If you are completely indifferent to that allure of American galore, then, this article is not for you. But if you, as most of us do, have a fascination for the “City of Lights”, then read on. We have put together a list of the best Las Vegas movies.

Most of us have no land based casino close by. The closest option is to interact with real persons on a live dealer casino. The online option is good, but why not bring Las Vegas to life with some of these top movies. We have picked the ones that capture how “A little bit of this town goes a very long way”, that’s how Hunter S. Thompson’s quote goes. Which brings us to the list of brilliant Las Vegas Movies.

Visit Las Vegas tonight!

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Based on Hunter S. Thomas seminal psychedelic classic we follow Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro on their unworldly antics in Vegas. This rather dark comedy will make you cringe and howl with laughter. Las Vegas makes the ideal backdrop for the two men’s escapades.

Oceans Eleven (2001)

Steven Soderbergh delivers as always with a dream team of Clooney, Roberts, Damon and Pitt. The original Ocean’s Eleven from 1960’s is a delight, you can enjoy watching the original Rat Pack in action. Yet, for a perfect Saturday night-in, the 2001 version is recommended. If you enjoy it you can binge-watch the sequels Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.

The Hangover (2009)

Now many have forgotten how good the first Hangover really was. Unfortunately, two daft sequels followed and failed to reach that lofty bar. The first movie follows 3 bachelors living it large – and then some – in Las Vegas and is hilarious. Someone told me the ladies don’t mind that Bradley Cooper is in it either.

Casino (1995)

A mafioso and a casino executive compete over a Las Vegas gambling empire and the same elusive woman’s love. Sharon Stone got an Oscar nomination in this epic Martin Scorsese film. One not to miss.

The Grand (2007)

Perhaps a movie for poker fans first and foremost, yet you don’t need to be able to count cards to enjoy this one. The cast is the reason why. The focus of the film is a poker tournament played at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas between the characters in which real poker matches were played by the actors as the scenes were filmed. Watch Ray Romano, Woody Harrelson and Chris Parnell, to name a few, battle it out on the poker table.

What Happens In Vegas (2008)

This movie made the list due to the way it captures the catchphrase “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. And in fairness, Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz have undeniable chemistry. The gloves are off as they both want the same 3 million dollar slot machine win.

Leaving Las Vegas (1995)

This list would not be complete without a movie which portrays the dark side of the city of lights. And there isn’t a movie that does it better than this horrifyingly dark Mike Figgis film. Nicolas Cage delivered one of the performances of his life, making us remember why we once used to love him. The fragile and painful relationship between a Las Vegas hooker and a man who has arrived with the purpose to drink himself to death will haunt you for a long time.

There are so many fantastic movies that have not made it on this list. Yet hopefully it might help inspire you to visit Las Vegas too. As the saying goes:

“You can’t buy happiness, but you can go to Vegas, and that’s practically the same thing”.
