Gambling has developed quite a reputation as a glamourous and glitzy pastime, due in part to the fact it has been the subject of many big blockbusters. Gambling films are some of the most popular and iconic films ever, and here we will give you a little run down of our favourite ones! Read on to find out more!

1. Casino

As the name might suggest, this is a film about a casino and it ranks amongst the best gambling movies of all time. Directed by Martin Scorcese, released in 1995 and with an all star cast including Joe Pesci, Robert di Niro, and Sharon Stone- it is nearly three hours of cinematic spectacular. Set in Las Vegas, it tells the tale of a gambling handicapper who is called by the mob to oversee the day to day running of one of the largest casinos in town. Considered by many as one of the most beautifully shot films ever, it is a firm favourite with casino fans and movie buffs worldwide.

2. Casino Royale

You couldn’t have a list about casino films and not mention the cult that is James Bond! Casinos often played a big part in his films but this particular film, released in 2006 is our favourite. Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Daniel Craig and Eva Green, it was one of the most successful Bond films in recent years. It centres around Bond needing to bankrupt a terrorist at a game of high stakes poker!

3. Oceans 11

A fast paced, dark comedy, Oceans 11 stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, and Brad Pitt in a tale of a plot to rob Bellagio, The Mirage and the MGM Grand casinos in Las Vegas. The film was so popular it spawned several sequels as well as a female only all star cast that is scheduled for release in June 2018.

4. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells

A classic, British gangster film directed and written by Guy Ritchie and starring Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, and Sting, it was released in 1998 to great critical acclaim. Costing only £800,00 to make, it grossed nearly $30 million worldwide. A crime comedy with a fast-paced script and great soundtrack, it tells the story of a card shark who loses £500,000 to a big mob boss and has to somehow find the means to pay him back before he loses his kneecaps!

These are just four of our favourite movies that are based around gambling and casinos. It is no surprise that casinos make a good story line for films due to the characters they attract, the big money at stake and the general excitement of the whole thing. For those looking for a bit of a kick, whilst we cannot promise the same glitzy lifestyle as some of these characters, you can still win big prizes by gambling online!
