Artificial Teaser Trailer: Andrew Garfield Transforms Into Sam Altman for Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI Drama

So here’s the first proper look at Andrew Garfield playing Sam Altman. Neon just dropped the teaser for Artificial, Luca Guadagnino’s take on the five days in November 2023 when OpenAI’s board fired its CEO, the internet lost its mind, and Altman was back at his desk before the week was out. If you followed that saga in real time, you’ll remember how genuinely unhinged it felt — a company worth tens of billions nearly imploding over a weekend of vague board statements and staff threatening to quit en masse.
Garfield doesn’t do a broad impression here, at least not from what the teaser shows — it’s more unsettling than that. Yura Borisov plays chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, Monica Barbaro is CTO Mira Murati, and Ike Barinholtz turns up as Elon Musk, which is its own kind of casting chaos. Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Mark Rylance, Billie Lourd and Chris O’Dowd round out a cast that’s stacked well past what a boardroom drama usually gets.
Simon Rich wrote the script, Damon Albarn did the score, and Malik Hassan Sayeed shot it across San Francisco and Turin in the back half of 2025. There’s also a distribution story worth mentioning: this was originally an Amazon MGM project, and Amazon reportedly walked away once its own OpenAI partnership made the film awkward to release. Neon picked it up instead.
No trailer date yet, just the teaser above, with Artificial aiming for a Christmas Day opening.
