Walt Disney Pictures have released an official statement via their D23 service stating that Doctor Steven Strange himself – played by Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch – will star in the forthcoming Thor sequel, Thor: Ragnarok.
Directed by Taika Waititi, Strange will join Chris Hemsworth’s titular hero, as well as Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk/Bruce Banner, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki for an epic adventure which was teased in the post-credit sequence of Cumberbatch’s own solo film.
Also starring in the upcoming epic are Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Sam Neill in a currently undisclosed role. Here’s the official word from Disney:
“If you need even more intergalactic, world-saving action, Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new,”
Thor: Ragnarok will serve as the third feature in the Thor franchise, and arrives in UK cinemas on 3rd November.
