Hex Studios today announced the VOD release of their eagerly awaited horror Noir The Black Gloves. The latest offering from Director/Writer duo Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly, the film sees the return of the Owlman, the iconic villain and viral sensation first seen in their acclaimed debut feature Lord of Tears.
The Black Gloves tells the story of a psychologist obsessed with the disappearance of his young patient, and the menacing owl-headed figure that plagued her nightmares. His investigations lead him to a reclusive ballerina who, just like his patient, is convinced that she is about to die at the hands of this disturbing entity.
The film stars horror icons Macarena Gómez (Shrew’s Nest, Dagon) and Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser, Nightbreed) as well as Hex Studios favorites Alexandra Nicole Hulme and Jamie Scott-Gordon.
Shot in stark black and white, the film harks back to cinema history. Director Lawrie Brewster describes his inspirations.
“I’m a huge fan of classic chillers, from Hitchcock’s Rebecca to The Innocents and The Haunting, so we looked to those films for inspiration in terms of style and expression, but I think we’ve created something very fresh and new with The Black Gloves, and avoided emulation for its own sake.”
According to writer Sarah Daly, despite its period setting, the film explores some very contemporary themes.
“We always aspire to make films that are entertaining to watch, with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat, but it’s important to us that they also have something to say. Behind the thrills and dread of The Black Gloves, there’s a story about power, obsession, and gender politics.”
The film is available now on Amazon Video or you can pick up a copy direct from the Hex Studios website at: https://hexmedia.tv
The Black Gloves is an international co-production between Hex Studios and Dark Dunes Productions, in association with producers Richard Pate and Nick Ford, 3rd Monkey Productions, 7 Toes Productions, Needle’s Eye Productions and Lights Out Productions.
