Han Solo Movie To Start Shooting In February 2017 Han Solo Movie To Start Shooting In February 2017
As Rogue One arrives, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy gives us more information on the forthcoming Han Solo movie! Han Solo Movie To Start Shooting In February 2017

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has officially arrived in theatres, and it is absolutely exceptional. You can read our glowing ★★★★★ review of the film right here. But now is the time to look ahead to the next entry in the new range of Star Wars anthology films: the currently untitled Han Solo origins tale.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street fame, the film will star Hail, Caesar!‘s Alden Ehrenreich as the titular smuggler, and begin production in February, 2017 according to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Talking to the BBC at the UK Launch Event for Gareth Edwards’ latest, she said:

“I would just say that I think what’s really great about the fact that we’re now moving into these standalone movies is that we’re bringing in, essentially auteur directors, like Gareth [Edwards]. We’re really supporting those directors and their vision. We’re looking at each of these movies without a rulebook. We’re basically saying, ‘Okay, here’s a new story, a new movie, a new approach, and what do we want to do?’ We’re very open to that. I think it very much is in the spirit of what George Lucas did to begin with. He inspired ILM innovation – technical innovation was extremely important to him. It’s very much a part of the culture of this company.”

Kennedy also confirmed that the Han Solo film will take place in between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Episode IV: A New Hope, just like Rogue One, and Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels do. Donald Glover (Spider-Man: Homecoming) will also feature in the film as Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) will star in a currently undisclosed role. It is currently scheduled for UK release on May 25th, 2018.
