There is no doubt about it; the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise is one of the most lucrative of recent times. It therefore came as no surprise that the fifth instalment was released last weekend, to much fanfare and an exciting cult following.

It was even less of a surprise that Pirates of the Caribbean: Deal Men Tell No Tales led the way this Memorial Day weekend in the States, generating $76.6 million during the four-day weekend. At the heart of this success is the return of the brilliant Captain Jack Sparrow, with Johnny Depp reprising his seminal role on the silver screen.

How Much is Jack Sparrow’s Jewellery Worth?

But have you ever wondered how much Jack Sparrow’s lavish collection of jewellery is actually worth? This was the recent subject of a fascinating study by UK jewellery expert F. Hinds, who took the time to calculate the value of Sparrow’s haul in real-world money.

The results are in, and the Captain’s collection of bling would in fact be worth a staggering £224,615 on the current market. This includes estimated pricing and the proposed cost of recreating Sparrow’s more unusual pieces, with the final number suggesting that the pirate may not be as incompetent as he initially seems.

Sparrow’s rings alone are worth £19,000, including the prized skull ring made from sterling silver and embedded with a single, green emerald stone. This piece would be worth approximately £4,250 by itself, while the meticulously carved Dragon Ring has an estimated value of £750.

As for Jack’s pearl necklace, F. Hinds estimated that this would retail for around £5,500. They imagined the piece being redesigned with modern, cultured pearls from the South China Sea, which would come the closest to replicating the aesthetic.

The Jewel in the Crown

Unsurprisingly, Sparrow’s crown is the most expensive piece of bling that he owns (we say owns in the loosest sense of the word, of course, as this was actually stolen from the Isle de Muerta). Bejewelled with pearls, blue sapphires and large semi-precious gemstones, it has a market value of £200,000 and makes up the bulk of Captain’ Jacks bounty.

When you consider this in line with the treasure of Cortes, (which does not count as jewellery, of course, but simply cannot be discounted) Sparrow has a net worth in excess of £3.2 million. This is because his treasure haul includes a staggering 882 pieces of Aztec gold coins, worth a total of £3 million all by themselves!

So while treasure may be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of pirates and Captain Jack Sparrow, the great man also glitters with more than £240,000 worth of jewellery. This is certainly something to look for when you go to see the latest instalment in the franchise,
