Moonlight & American Honey Lead Spirit Award Nominations

Barry Jenkins’ profoundly intimate Moonlight and Andrea Arnold’s enveloping road trip American Honey lead the pack at the 32nd annual Spirit Awards with six nominations apiece.

Both films are part of the A24 family, who’ll enjoy much success at the ceremony as Film Independent have recognised a whopping six of their features from the past year. Among the nominees are Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women, Swiss Army Man, The Witch, and Morris From America.

Kenneth Lonergan’s hugely-praised Manchester by the Sea earned five nominations, whilst Other People, Jackie, and Free in Deed all racked up four nods.

Moonlight will receive the Robert Altman Award, which recognises a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast, and will contest the Best Feature award alongside American Honey, Chronic, Jackie, and Manchester by the Sea.
