Following from the casting of Oscar-recipient Alicia Vikander back in April as Lara Croft, MGM Warner Bros. have now found who Ms. Vikander will square off against in the as yet untitled Tomb Raider reboot. Walton Goggins (Justified, The Hateful Eight, Sons Of Anarchy) has reportedly entered final negotiations to portray the lead protagonist. Not much is known, but it does show promise with the casting of two extremely talented performers.

It’s very possible that WB and MGM have done their homework – and Goggins’ casting could prove to be a real coup for the producers of the film, which is rumoured to be centred on Lara Croft’s earlier years as an archaeologist/adventurer. There have also been reports circulating that the film could be based on the acclaimed 2013 video game, which also served as a reboot to the series.

Norweigian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave), is signed on as director, with a script penned by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Graham King (Argo, World War Z, The Departed) will serve as producer, who acquired the rights to the film back in 2011 from Square Enix. Paramount Pictures previously released two films based on the multi-media franchise in 2001 and 2003 starring Angelina Jolie. The Tomb Raider reboot is scheduled for release on March 16th 2018.
