As Paramount Pictures gear up for production on their hugely-anticiped spy sequel, Mission: Impossible 6 this summer, the studio has officially announced the cast for the sixth instalment of the beloved series. However the news provides some disappointment for fans of Jeremy Renner‘s character William Brandt, as he will not reprise the role due to heavy commitments with Marvel Studios.

Renner has co-starred in both Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation as a member of Ethan Hunt’s Impossible Mission Force, however shooting on Avengers: Infinity War, and additional entries including Ant-Man and the Wasp have forced the actor to throw in the towel.

Tom Cruise will of course lead director Christopher McQuarrie‘s new film as Ethan Hunt, and he’ll be joined by returning stars Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn), Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), Alec Baldwin (Alan Hunley), plus Sean Harris will reprise the role of Rogue Nation villain, Solomon Lane.

New additions to the Mission: Impossible crew include Henry Cavill (Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice), Sian Brooke (BBC’s Sherlock), and Vanessa Kirby (Netflix’s The Crown). McQuarrie’s sequel will shoot in London, Paris, India, and New Zealand. It is set for release in UK cinemas on 27th July, 2018.
