PROVEN: NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES

BRITAIN’S MOST HEROIC TRAITS REVEALED – WITH FIREFIGHTERS VOTED THE PUBLIC’S TOP REAL-LIFE HEROES

  • Firefighters voted as the most heroic people amongst the British public, with mums, nurses and the British Forces also appearing high on the list

  • ODEON has launched a search to find the UK’s real-life superheroes to coincide with its epic Calling All Heroes season of superhero blockbusters – from Avengers: Infinity War to Solo: A Star Wars Story

You’d be forgiven for thinking that super strength or the power of invisibility constitutes what it means be a superhero, yet being supportive, honest and caring have been revealed as the most heroic traits of all to the British public, according to the new ODEON Cinemas Superhero Search.

The findings have been revealed to mark the launch of ODEON’s search to find and reward the everyday, real-life superheroes across the UK, ahead its epic Calling All Heroes season of superhero blockbusters soaring onto the big screen, including Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Ocean’s 8.

To nominate their real-life heroes, the public can visit the ODEON website to submit their nominations and say why they think they’re worthy of celebration, to be in with a chance of winning a host of ODEON prizes, including a year-long Limitless membership:

Bringing to life the phrase ‘not all heroes wear capes’, the research from ODEON – Europe’s largest cinema group – reveals that three quarters (72%) of Brits deem firefighters to be the most heroic among us, followed by the British Forces (58%) and nurses (56%), while mums are the biggest heroes to over a third (40%) of us.

Heroic gestures also come in different forms, with 41% saying that they consider something as simple as saying “please” and “thank you” as heroic, as well as helping somebody cross the road (38%), or making someone a good cup of tea (13%) in a time of need – while over half (51%) say that simply asking someone if they’re alright is worthy of hero status.

“To celebrate a super season of hero blockbusters, we want to find and celebrate those people who go the extra mile, who wake up to put a smile on the face of others and carry out super-heroic acts every single day,” said Carol Welch, Managing Director at ODEON UK & Ireland. “Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, from grandparents to neighbours, or even your local postman or woman – whoever they are, we want to find, and reward them for their everyday heroic activities.”

When quizzed about the superpowers Brits wish they had at their disposal, almost half (45%) said they’d like the power of invisibility, followed closely by the ability to fly (43%) and teleportation (43%).
