After much speculation and deliberation, it has now been officially confirmed that auteur Paul Thomas Anderson‘s (There Will Be Blood, The Master) forthcoming film will categorically arrive in 2017, with Focus Features circling a Christmas release date.
The news broke at CinemaCon, as Focus Features teased their forthcoming titles during a panel which showed off footage from Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled among others. Sadly there was zero footage of PTA’s currently untitled project, which stars Daniel Day Lewis, but it is clear they are gunning for consideration at the Academy Awards in 2018 with such a competitive release timing.
Whether the film will be complete in time for the later film festivals in the calendar, such as Venice and BFI London is debatable, but fingers are firmly crossed nonetheless. For those who don’t know, the movie is set in the couture fashion world of 1950s London. The story illuminates the life behind the curtain of an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society. Sounds like a perfect fit to us…
