Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (Sometimes There is Joy, Sometimes There is Sorrow) is a 2001 romantic drama written and directed by Karan Johar. The film is set in a traditional Indian society and shows why and how some Indian traditions need to be changed.

The film is about a rich and strict Indian family that sticks to traditions. The family consists of a conservative father, gentle mother and two sons, the eldest of whom is adopted. This son falls in love with a girl from a lower class of society, which is strictly forbidden by the traditional rules within the family. He is cast out from the family when he refuses to give her up. Ten years later, the youngest son hatches a plan to bring his family back together.

Queen (2013)
Queen is a 2013 comedy drama directed by Vikas Bahl. This is a woman-centric film and is set in a conservative society, where women’s empowerment plays a major role and shows the changes needed in Indian society. Rani, the main character, is dumped by her fiancé because he thinks she is too conservative. She makes her own journey through Europe and visits cities like Paris and Amsterdam, where she learns what it is like to be independent and free. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
1998’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Something Happens) is one of India’s most famous romantic comedies and Karan Johar’s directorial debut. The story combines two love triangles that are ten years apart. The first revolves around two best friends in a college, Rahul and Anjali. Anjali falls for Rahul, but he falls in love with someone else and knows nothing of Anjali’s feelings. Ten years later, the man is a widower and has a little daughter who meets her father’s best friend. The second half, however, also revolves around a love triangle, this time between the duo and Anjali’s fiancé.
