Netflix Renews Luke Cage For A Second Season

It may not be for some time, but it is official – Marvel’s Luke Cage is returning for a second season on Netflix!
The Netflix/Marvel Television Universe (can we call it that?) has enjoyed much success since launch series – Daredevil, aired in April 2015. Further on, the thematically layered Jessica Jones and the subsequent second season of Daredevil both achieved considerable acclaim in November 2015 and March 2016 respectively. The first series of Luke Cage, whilst amassing heavy praise for its style, music and approach to racial issues – did not quite hit as heavy based on general consensus.
Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter as the titular ‘Power Man’, is looking to continue that wave as Netflix formally announced that we can expect to see brand new episodes featuring the Harlem Defender in the future. Unfortunately, this could possibly be as late as the tail end of 2018. With Iron Fist fast approaching its March 2017 air date, and with the crossover event miniseries The Defenders and also The Punisher scheduled for next year, it’s already a busy 12 months ahead for Marvel and its showrunners.
Until a release date is pinned, we won’t have to wait too long to see Colter take to the streets as Cage again. When he teams up with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist in Marvel’s The Defenders – Hitting Netflix in 2017.
